WordPress Credits is a contribution-based program supported by the WordPress Foundation that brings students into the heart of the WordPress open source project.

Please note that the “WordPress Credits” course is not an open-access program. It is a specialized initiative designed for educational institutions.

What is the WP Credits Program?

The WP Credits Program is an innovative global project that partners with universities to integrate WordPress into their curriculum. The program provides professors and students with the resources, training, and official recognition to work on real-world WordPress projects for non-profits, contributing to their digital presence while gaining valuable, accredited experience. It’s a unique blend of academic learning and contributing back to the open-source ecosystem.

How to Participate

If you are a student or professor interested in bringing the WP Credits program to your university, or if your institution is already considering it, participation requires a formal application.

Access to this course and the broader program is granted only to approved partner universities. To express interest and begin the application process, the relevant faculty or administrative staff from your university must complete the official interest form.

We appreciate your enthusiasm for learning WordPress and contributing to the community through this impactful program.

Onboarding

The Onboarding module introduces you to the WP Credits program and gives you everything you need to get started as a WordPress contributor. You will set up your WordPress.org profile, join the global WordPress Slack community, complete a set of foundational courses on how the WordPress project works, and launch your personal website which will be the place where you will document your contribution journey throughout the program. By the time you finish this module, you will have the tools, accounts, and background knowledge you need to move into the Project module and begin your real contribution work.

The Project module is the heart of your WP Credits experience. This is where you move from orientation into action. You will choose a WordPress contribution team, define your project, complete real work for the community, and publish regular updates throughout the program. This module builds directly on the Onboarding module. You have already set up your WordPress.org profile, joined Slack, completed the required background courses, and launched your personal website. Now you put those tools and foundations to work by contributing to the WordPress open source project.

You will publish a final project report, share feedback on the program, and receive your completion certificate. This module builds on everything you did in the Project module. You have spent weeks contributing to a WordPress team, documenting your work through regular updates, connecting with the global community, and participating in a WordPress event. The Wrap-up module gives that work a proper conclusion; one that is public, reflective, and worth being proud of.
