Using AI in your WordPress Dashboard
Did "Using AI in your WordPress Dashboard" work well for your group?
Share feedbackIn this hands-on activity, participants will use the AI plugin within WordPress Playground to integrate and test various artificial intelligence features directly inside the WordPress dashboard. Without requiring any prior coding knowledge, attendees will learn how to connect an AI provider API key, enable experimental features, and use AI-assisted tools for image generation, title creation, content resizing, and alt text generation. Finally, the session entails testing admin-level experiments, such as executing a live comment moderation workflow and browsing registered capabilities via the developer-facing Abilities Explorer.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Configure AI Connectors: Set up the WordPress AI plugin within a browser-based WordPress Playground environment and successfully authenticate it using a free Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic API key.
- Utilize Text Generation Tools: Generate context-aware titles, excerpts, meta descriptions, categories, and tags directly inside the block editor based on a pre-prepared 300-word draft blog post.
- Execute Image Generation: Activate the stable Image Generation and Editing feature to create and structurally modify visual blocks within the post editor using descriptive text prompts.
- Manipulate Block Content: Apply content resizing heuristics to shorten, expand, rephrase, or summarize selected paragraph blocks within the editor.
- Diagnose Post Quality: Run a full content analysis using the Review Notes experiment to interpret inline automated feedback regarding accessibility, readability, grammar, and SEO parameters.
- Implement Automated Refinements: Execute the Refine from Notes option to automatically apply AI-suggested structural changes and track modifications utilizing the core WordPress Revisions system.
- Evaluate Automated Moderation: Enable and configure AI Comment Moderation parameters, including toxicity thresholds and sentiment analysis settings, to evaluate how the system flags negative test comments.
- Analyze Registered Capabilities: Navigate the Tools menu to inspect developer-facing hooks, capabilities, and actions registered via the core WordPress Abilities API.
- Distinguish Stability Lifecycles: Differentiate between default-on stable features and opt-in experiments to formulate informed deployment and data-sharing choices for live production sites.
